Luis Garcia’s first brush with Manchester United came a year ago this weekend and was an unpleasant experience.

The £6m (€8.8m) signing from Barcelona was, like his Spanish colleagues Josemi and Xabi Alonso, only a couple of weeks into his Anfield career when he ran into a United side at Old Trafford intent on demonstrating how tough life can be for newcomers in the Premiership.
