Britain's Prince William is to become president of the Football Association, it was announced today.

Britain's Prince William is to become president of the Football Association, it was announced today.

The 23-year-old will take over the role from his uncle the Duke of York in May next year – just in time for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Until then the future king, an avid Aston Villa fan, will act as President-Designate, a spokesperson said.
