Bassila added to Black Cats squad

Sunderland’s new signing Christian Bassila could go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s Barclays Premiership trip to Wigan.

The 27-year-old defensive midfielder could add steel to a team who have failed to collect a point from their first three games after completing his move from Strasbourg on Wednesday.

Defender George McCartney remains on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, while Stephen Wright and Colin Healy (both knee), Danny Collins (Achilles) and Kevin Kyle (hip) are out.
