Charlton hope to extend perfect start

Charlton made just one enforced change as they looked to extend their perfect start to the new Barclays Premiership season against new boys Wigan at The Valley.

With midfielder Darren Ambrose suspended following his sending off at Sunderland last week, winger Jerome Thomas started on the left with England squad man Darren Bent leading the attack.

There was no place for skipper Matt Holland, who picked up a knock to the head when on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

The Latics, narrowly beaten by Chelsea last week, were without record signing Henri Camara after the striker picked up a foot injury in Senegal’s friendly with Ghana on Wednesday.

Andreas Johansson came into the XI, with Jason Roberts the lone striker.
