Wayne Rooney launched the Malcolm Glazer era in style at Old Trafford, driving home a seventh-minute effort to give Manchester United a half-time lead in their Champions League qualifier with Debrecen.

Glazer brothers Joel, Avi and Bryan were on their feet with the rest of a below-capacity crowd when Rooney’s low shot nestled in the bottom corner.

But United were frustrated in their efforts to grab a second as they looked to make their superiority tell and ensure a place in the group stage at the expense of the Hungarian minnows.
