Former European Cup winner Neville, signed for £3million from Manchester United earlier this summer, took the place of the injured Lee Carsley for the third qualifying round first leg against the Spaniards at Goodison Park.

James Beattie was included in the starting XI by Moyes ahead of Marcus Bent who was on the bench.

Club captain David Weir was in the side ahead of summer recruit Per Kroldrup, who was carrying a knock.
