Fenlon seeks positives ahead of Steaua test
Shelbourne boss Pat Fenlon is wary of using negative tactics against Steaua Bucharest – but admits the Dublin clash will be different to his side’s previous qualifier.
Fenlon’s men face the Romanians tomorrow in the Champions League qualifier after defeating Glentoran in the last round.
Although he is set to play with two strikers, Fenlon predicts a very different game.
“It was great to pick the same team twice and it really paid off against the Glens over the two legs, but Steaua are a very different team and we’ll need to adapt our side and tactics accordingly,” he told the club's website.
“I know quite a bit about them now and they’re a very good side, they’ve got great movement and they’re going to be very hard to contain.
“But I’ll be happy travelling over there if we have kept the tie alive. We’ve done very well recently playing away in Europe and if we can nick a goal or two on the counter-attack, we’re in with a good chance of advancing.”
Glen Crowe and Jason Byrne are likely to start in attack at Tolka Park, although they will probably not have the same amount of chances generated in the 6-2 aggregate win over Glentoran. Fenlon believes it is important to use home advantage to benefit his strikers.
“We’re going to be a little bit more aggressive than last year,” Fenlon told the Irish Examiner. “We’re at home, it’s the first leg so we’ll try to be a little bit more aggressive.”
