Addicks capture Smertin on loan deal

Charlton have signed midfielder Alexei Smertin on a year-long loan deal from Premiership rivals Chelsea.

The 30-year-old, who figured in 30 games for Chelsea last season, has already spent a season on loan in the Premiership – with Portsmouth shortly after his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Bordeaux.
