Rangers sign South American on loan
Rangers have signed striker Federico Nieto on loan until January with a view to a permanent deal.
The 21-year-old Argentinian forward arrives at Ibrox from Buenos Aires club, Almagro.
Nieto becomes the latest signing to join the Light Blues following the arrivals of Ian Murray, Brahim Hemdani and Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan.
Rangers manager Alex McLeish believes the capture of Nieto for the first half of the Bank of Scotland Premier League season at least will offer "Argentinian flair" at Ibrox.
But the Light Blues boss also admits the club are taking a step into the unknown with the signing of the young forward.
McLeish said: “He is young and not a seasoned campaigner so, right away, we are bringing in an unknown quantity.
“We have seen sufficient footage of him and done some background checks on him and we believe he can be a very good prospect.
“We hope he can bring a bit of Argentinian flair.”
McLeish has also confirmed that the Glasgow club have agreed a deal with Sheffield Wednesday for Scotland defender Maurice Ross.
He added: “Sheffield Wednesday and Rangers agreed some kind of deal but it depends on Maurice Ross agreeing with Sheffield Wednesday.”
Rangers will play the first match of their pre-season tour of Canada tomorrow against a select team of Canadian professional soccer league stars.
The game takes place at Dufferin Clark Community Centre in West Vaughan, Toronto, with a 6pm local kick-off time.
The match, however, is closed to the public.
