Keen interest in Worrell

Shelbourne face competition from Swindon Town for the services for former Republic of Ireland Under 21 defender Derek Worrell.

Worrell, 27, appeared set to return to Dublin from Plymouth Argyle this summer with Shelbourne his most likely destination. However, Swindon are now monitoring developments and it now looks unlikely that Shelbourne will be able to tie up the deal on Friday when the transfer window opens.

Shelbourne manager Pat Fenlon said: “I had a good chat with Dave but he had another offer on the table and wants to talk to that club before he makes a decision, so it remains to be seen what happens.”

Meanwhile, UEFA has granted Shelbourne an exemption from the 24 hour away rule before their Champions League tie with Glentoran in Belfast.

Under UEFA rules, opposition teams must be in the jurisdiction of the host country 24 hours before the game, but because that would mean ordering Shelbourne to travel to Belfast on July 12, UEFA have granted a one-off dispensation to the Dubliners.
