Spurs accuse Chelsea of illegal Arnesen approach

The controversy surrounding Chelsea’s conduct escalated today after Tottenham insisted their sporting director Frank Arnesen was approached illegally.

Arnesen has been suspended and White Hart Lane officials are considering what action to take after claiming their London neighbours made an approach “in direct breach of FAPL rules”, while Chelsea insist their advances were official.

Spurs have explained how Chelsea’s letter to ask for permission to approach Arnesen was copied to Arnesen himself.

“By definition, Frank was therefore approached prior to the club having had any chance to refuse permission,” read a statement on the official Tottenham website www.spurs.co.uk
