Cork City moved three points clear at the top of the Eircom League Premier Division on Monday night with a 2-0 victory over defending champions Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Both goals came in the second half with Roy O’Donovan opening the scoring in the 54th minute, heading home from a Neale Fenn cross. In the 74th minute Stephen Brennan put John O'Flynn's tame shot through his own net 16 minutes from time to secure the win for Cork.

This was the second defeat in a matter of days for injury-hit Shelbourne who lost their unbeaten start to the season after going down 2-1 to Bohemians on Friday.

Cork are now top of the standings with Shelbourne in second spot, a point clear of Drogheda and Derry.
