Gary Neville has become the latest player to pull out of England’s tour to the United States, withdrawing tonight with the groin injury that kept him out of the FA Cup final.

The Manchester United right-back was a spectator as his side lost on penalties to Arsenal at the Millennium Stadium and he later confirmed he would not be fit for next month’s matches against the USA and Colombia.

Neville’s place will be taken by Charlton’s 25-year-old defender Luke Young and he said: “Curbs (Charlton manager Alan Curbishley) actually told me on the Tuesday that I was on standby for the squad and obviously I was delighted just to be considered, so to be called up for the squad is fantastic.”
