Doubt over Wembley completion date

The man in charge of the new Wembley stadium insists it “would not be the end of the world” if building work is not completed in time for next season’s FA Cup final.

The man in charge of the new Wembley stadium insists it “would not be the end of the world” if building work is not completed in time for next season’s FA Cup final.

The Football Association has approached the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff about hosting the 2006 showpiece if required.

But Wembley National Stadium Limied chief executive Michael Cunnah insisted there was no cause for concern.

“Whenever Wembley is delivered we will be delighted,” he told the BBC Sport website.

“Multiplex (the building contractors) tell us that everything is on schedule.

“The main thing is that we are building a magnificent stadium for an agreed price. Our monitors are in place, of course, but the real people we rely on are Multiplex.”
