West Brom keeper ready to save place

Polish goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak is set to be handed the chance to save West Brom’s Barclays Premiership status on Sunday.

Baggies boss Bryan Robson is unlikely to risk regular number one Russell Hoult in their Premiership finale against Portsmouth after the keeper limped out of last week’s Old Trafford draw with a groin injury.

Substitute Kuszczak performed heroics to save a point for the Baggies which kept their unlikely top-flight survival bid alive.

The Baggies must beat Portsmouth at The Hawthorns and hope neither Norwich, Crystal Palace nor Southampton manage to pick up three points elsewhere.

Robson said: “Russell has got a less than 50% chance of being fit. If his groin has not settled you cannot gamble on somebody’s fitness in a game as important as this.”
