Cork City keeper to miss Setanta clash

Cork City will be without Michael Devine for their group deciding Setanta Cup clash with Portadown in Cork on May 16.

The City keeper was at the centre of all the controversy at Tolka Park last night when Shels were awarded a goal that never was to sweep them to the top of Group Two though they have now played all their fixtures.

TV evidence proved that the ball from Jamie Harris’ second half header was not over the line and yet the Northern Ireland linesman Eamon Shanks over-ruled the ref, Mark Courtney, also from the North and the goal stood.

“I was very annoyed at the decision and there’s no way that ball had crossed the line. I think the FAI or Setanta would want to have a re-think about bringing in match officials from outside the jurisdiction to take charge of games.

“They don’t know the players in the eircom League and they are not familiar with our league. I am disgusted with the decision,” blasted Devine who was yellow carded when he raced out to the linesman to lodge his verbal protest.

“Obviously, we have no recourse to TV or video evidence and I can’t get the yellow card rescinded either,” he added.

It is this booking that now keeps him out of the crucial match with Portadown on May 16 at Turner’s Cross as he was also booked in the 1-1 draw with Portadown at Shamrock Park last month.
