Pompey confirm Perrin appointment
Portsmouth today confirmed the appointment of Frenchman Alain Perrin as their new manager.
The 48-year-old former Marseille boss will be assisted by former Luton and Tottenham boss David Pleat until the end of the season, before commencing a two-year contract at Fratton Park.
Chairman Milan Mandaric told a press conference televised by Sky Sports News: “I am pleased to announce that Alain Perrin is going to be manager of our football club.
“He is going to have learn about British football quickly so I couldn’t find a better man to help him than David Pleat.”
Velimir Zajec, who has been in charge of the first team since the departure of Harry Redknapp last November, will revert to his original role as executive director, while Joe Jordan will remain on the coaching staff at Fratton Park.
Perrin added: "I believe I could come to England next season so it is a little early for me. I am free now. I am very happy to join the Premiership because it is the best championship in Europe.
“I came immediately because I like to coach and I miss football, being with players and preparing for games.”
Pompey are currently in a poor run of form but Perrin is confident of survival. He added: “It’s more difficult for other clubs so it’s an opportunity for me to come to the club and prepare for next season.
“I’m here to give my experience from Marseille and get as many points as possible until the end of the season.”
