Shearer may extend Newcastle playing career
Newcastle captain Alan Shearer is to postpone his retirement and play on for another season, according to Press Association reports.
The former England striker was due to end his 17-year professional career in May after constantly insisting over the last few months that he had no intention to carry on playing.
However, the Magpies’ talismanic striker is just nine goals short of Jackie Milburn’s club-record total of 200 and there has been speculation from some quarters he would carry on.
Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has made a point of trying to get Shearer to change his mind since he took over at St James’ Park from Sir Bobby Robson in September.
