Double doubt for Celtic

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has concerns over Stanislav Varga and John Hartson ahead of the Bank of Scotland Premier League trip to Dundee United.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has concerns over Stanislav Varga and John Hartson ahead of the Bank of Scotland Premier League trip to Dundee United.

Slovakian defender Varga missed the midweek win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle after being struck down by a mystery bug on the day of the game and will be assessed before the game at Tannadice.

Hartson hobbled off at the Caledonian Stadium with a recurrence of the ankle injury he sustained against Dunfermline the previous week.

O’Neill is already without Chris Sutton, but Juninho is back in contention for a place on the bench after recovering from an ankle problem.

Alan Thompson has shown no reaction to a groin injury and Paul Lambert is expected to rejoin the squad after a family illness.

Provisional squad: Douglas, Henchoz, McNamara, Balde, Varga, Laursen, Petrov, McGeady, Thompson, Juninho, Hartson, Marshall, Lambert, Hartson, Wallace, Lennon, Bellamy, Fernandez, Beattie, Valgaeren, Hedman, Pearson.
