Keegan sympathises with Canaries' plight

Kevin Keegan admitted he felt for Nigel Worthington after watching his Manchester City side deal what could be a “killer blow” to Norwich’s hopes of staying in the Barclays Premiership.

The Canaries raced into a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes at Carrow Road last night following quality finishes from Dean Ashton and Leon McKenzie.

However, wayward defending cost them dear as City hit back twice before half-time through Antoine Sibierski and Robbie Fowler.

Former England striker Fowler then completed the turnaround when he slotted in a stoppage-time winner to pass the 150 Premier League goals mark.

The defeat leaves Norwich some five points adrift of safety and, with Premiership leaders Chelsea the next visitors to Norfolk and dates against Manchester United and Arsenal fast approaching, the outlook is bleak for Worthington’s men.

“I feel a bit for Nigel Worthington,” reflected Keegan. “His team have got great character, they have a lot of drive and enthusiasm.

“I know it is a killer blow for Norwich, but I really think they have brought something to the Premiership.”
