Television pictures appeared to show a row in the tunnel at Highbury between the captains of the two teams, Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane.

The Frenchman had to be led away by his Arsenal teammate Pascal Cygan, and Irishman Keane was seen pointing to the pitch saying: “I will see you out there.”

Sky Sports reported that the match referee, Graham Poll, warned both players following the confrontation.
