Arteta debut must wait

A knee injury will stop Everton’s new Spanish loan signing Mikel Arteta making his debut against Norwich in the Barclays Premiership tomorrow.

The 22-year-old from Real Sociedad was able to train with his new team-mates on arrival on Merseyside. But David Moyes will not risk him against the Canaries and is more likely to include the midfielder in his squad to travel to Southampton on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Moyes has minor doubts over Duncan Ferguson (hip), Alan Stubbs (groin), Steve Watson (stomach muscle) and Lee Osman (knee). Veteran goalkeeper Nigel Martyn is pushing for a return to the first team after Richard Wright’s less that convincing display against Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Team (from): Wright, Hibbert, Pistone, Stubbs, Weir, Yobo, Naysmith, McFadden, Carsley, Osman, Kilbane, Cahill, Bent, Beattie, Chadwick, Martyn, Ferguson.
