Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr believes next week’s friendly against Portugal will serve as “ideal preparation” for the vital World Cup qualifier with Israel at the end of March.

Kerr has named a strong 27-man squad for the Lansdowne Road clash with the Portuguese on Wednesday, February 9, opting for a blend of youth and experience.
