O'Connor confirmed as Limerick manager

Noel O’Connor has been named as manager of Limerick for the forthcoming season.

Limerick native O’Connor returns to the Shannonsiders, who he previously guided to the 2002 eircom League Cup title, after two seasons as Pat Dolan’s assistant manager at Cork City.

O’Connor said: “I’ve had two good years with Cork but the chance to go back into management on my own appealed to me and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

The new manager met the players on Wednesday afternoon and hopes to sign the majority of last year’s squad for next season, while he is also revealed that talks with players from outside are also underway.

Limerick also announced that they would be returning to their former home, Hogan Park, for next season. The club has secured a long-term lease on the ground at Rathbane – Limerick’s home from 1984 until 2001.

Limerick originally left Rathbane after the ground was declared not up to standard in 2001 with the club using Jackman Park and Pike Rovers’ Sports Ground during the last four years.

It had been reported that Limerick had looked at using rugby ground Thomnd Park, though the club is confident that Hogan Park will be ready for the start of the season.
