Blackburn sign South Africa captain
Blackburn have confirmed the signing of South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena after the necessary paperwork was completed.
Mokoena had a trial at Ewood Park before Christmas and began training with his new team-mates today, although international clearance has to arrive before he can play.
The 24-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, played for Ajax as a youngster before moving to Genk in Belgium and then on to Rovers.
Mokoena, who is manager Mark Hughes’ first signing, was introduced to the Ewood Park crowd during half-time of yesterday’s victory over Charlton.
“I am very excited at the prospect of the opportunity of playing in the English Premiership,” Mokoena told the club’s website, www.roversfc.co.uk.
“It feels right for me, it will be great experience and, at 24, I felt right for the challenge it presents. It’s a dream come true.
“My first priority is to try to get into the first team. There is a big personal challenge ahead for me, but it’s really exciting.”
