Carroll hopes for United contract

Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll is hopeful of signing an extension to his contract early in the new year.

The Northern Ireland international’s current deal runs out at the end of the season but he has rejected an initial offer, to the disbelief of manager Alex Ferguson, who questioned whether Carroll could expect to receive better terms elsewhere.
