Arsenal and Chelsea will be seeded as group winners, while Manchester United and Liverpool, who both finished as runners-up, will not.

And, with the rules stipulating that teams from the same association or from the same group will be kept apart, the draw on December 17 holds only a limited number of options.

ARSENAL (Winners of Group E)

Possible opponents: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Porto, Real Madrid, Werder Bremen

As group winners, they will play the first leg away from home.

CHELSEA (Winners of Group H)

Possible opponents: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven, Real Madrid, Werder Bremen.

As group winners, they will play the first leg away from home.

MANCHESTER UNITED (Runners-up in Group D)

Possible opponents: AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Internazionale, Juventus, Monaco.

As runners-up, they will play the first leg at home.

LIVERPOOL (Runners-up in Group A)

Possible opponents: AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Internazionale, Juventus, Lyon.

As runners-up, they will play the first leg at home.
