Barca's Eto'o abused by Getafe fans

Barcelona’s Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o was subjected to racist chanting from a section of the crowd during the Primera Liga leaders’ 2-1 win at Getafe on Saturday evening.

His every touch was greeted by the monkey chanting that England’s black players received in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium earlier this month.

Eto’o is the player claimed by Spain coach Luis Aragones as a friend when he was criticised for insulting remarks about Thierry Henry.

Eto’o appeared upset by the racist insults, receiving a booking in the 89th minute as he kicked the ball into a section of the crowd where the shouts were loudest.

Getafe president Angel Torres was quick to criticise the incidents calling those making the chants “thugs”, and striker Gica Craioveanu was also annoyed.

“I don’t agree with that sort of thing at all,” said the Romanian. “I put myself in his shoes and I felt really bad for him.”
