Gerrard to make reserve return

Liverpool have confirmed that Steven Gerrard will make his long-awaited comeback in their reserves tonight as a second-half substitute.

And the club’s other long-term injury victim, Antonio Nunez, is scheduled for his first game for the club since his £3m (€4.29m) move from Real Madrid, in the reserve game at Leeds on November 25.

Nunez damaged his knee in training the day his move was unveiled in pre-season and has not played since.

Manager Rafael Benitez wants Gerrard to be available for Saturday’s Premiership trip to Middlesbrough now that the midfielder is back in full training after breaking a metatarsal at Old Trafford on September 20.

As a result, Gerrard will only play in the final 45 minutes of tonight’s reserve game against Wolves at Telford.
