Premiership half-time review

Frank Lampard scored a fantastic free-kick after 33 minutes to give Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side the lead in the west London derby.

The visitors looked the more threatening in the first half with Arjen Robben terrifying Cottagers defenders – but it remained 1-0 at half-time.

Norwich’s hopes of a first Premiership win were dealt a blow when Jonatan Johansson opened the scoring for Charlton after 15 minutes at The Valley.

Hermann Hreidarsson had flicked on a free-kick and the Finland striker headed in from close range.

Johansson added a second six minutes later when he tapped in after Robert Green saved from a Danny Murphy header – and it was 2-0 at the break.

High-flying Bolton took a lead against Aston Villa at the Reebok Stadium but David O’Leary’s side hit back.

El-Hadji Diouf, on loan from Liverpool for the season, latched onto Kevin Nolan’s miscued shot after 21 minutes to give the Trotters the lead.

However, Gavin McCann scored the equaliser for the visitors four minutes before the break, heading in from Lee Hendrie’s cross.

Milan Baros scored twice to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The Czech Republic striker earned and scored a penalty after 23 minutes, but Joonas Kolkka hit back for the visitors.

But Baros restored the lead for the hosts just before the break when he latched on to Harry Kewell’s cross.

Bottom club Blackburn could not find a way past Manchester City at Eastlands - despite Brett Emerton causing the home side problems.

And Antoine Sibierski tapped in from Shaun Wright-Phillips’ cross to give the home side a one-goal advantage at the break.

Earlier Arsenal returned to the top of the Barclays Premiership this afternoon after winning a nine-goal thriller against north London rivals Tottenham.

Spurs took the lead at White Hart Lane through Noureddine Naybet before Thierry Henry, Lauren and Patrick Vieira established a lead for the visitors.

Jermain Defoe scored a spectacular solo effort before Fredrik Ljungberg restored the two-goal cushion.

Ledley King made it 4-3 before Robert Pires sealed the win, although Frederic Kanoute’s late strike gave Martin Jol’s side hope.

Meanwhile Kevin Phillips eased the pressure off Southampton boss Steve Wigley by scoring the winner in a 2-1 win against rivals Portsmouth.

The Saints were behind early after an own goal from Andreas Jakobsson but hit back through Dexter Blackstock after 18 minutes.

Phillips scored the winner 19 minutes from full-time to give Wigley his first league win since taking over from Paul Sturrock earlier this season.
