Crossley crucial in dazzling Fulham win
FT: Newcastle 1 Fulham 4
Mark Crossley produced the performance of a lifetime to pave the way for Fulham to snatch a remarkable victory at Newcastle.
The visitors were fortunate to lead 1-0 at the break through Collins John’s 28th-minute strike after Crossley had pulled off a string of superb saves.
However, there was nothing wrong with their approach thereafter as they played brilliantly on the counter-attack to forge further ahead through a Steed Malbranque double and Luis Boa Morte’s 76th-minute strike before Craig Bellamy pulled one back for the home side.
Souness sent on striker Shola Ameobi for Bernard with 22 minutes remaining, but his side went further behind two minutes later as they fell apart at the back.
Malbranque slid Radzinski in behind Robbie Elliott and the defender’s challenge left Webb with no choice but to point to the spot, and Malbranque duly obliged to give the scoreline a surreal appearance.
Boa Morte got in on the act 14 minutes from time when he ran on to Malbranque’s through-ball and lifted a shot over Harper, but Bellamy pulled one back a minute later with a header from a Bowyer cross.
Kluivert might have reduced the deficit further four minutes from time only to be denied by the excellent Crossley once again.
