Collins faces gaps in first Rovers line-up

Roddy Collins can add bitter insult to injury for former club Dublin City tonight by confirming their relegation with a victory for his new side Shamrock Rovers against Bohemians at Tolka Park (7.45pm).

Just a day after walking out on the eircom League premier division’s bottom club to controversially join the Hoops as their manager, Collins can consign his former club to the first division if his new side beat Bohs.

The Vikings last night lost 3-2 at home to Drogheda United, capping a nightmare day which started with their manager jumping ship for Rovers.

Collins could be without a host of players as he selects his first starting line-up.

Left-back Keith Doyle has a foot injury and is rated doubtful while goalkeeper Noel Mooney requires a late fitness test on a calf strain.

Definitely ruled out is the suspended Mark O’Brien while his central midfield partner Paul Caffrey will also be absent due to a groin injury. Centre-back Terry Palmer also has a groin problem which sidelines him tonight.

Third-placed Bohemians also have absentees with right-back Stephen Rice suspended while left-back Simon Webb is a major doubt to start with an Achilles’ tendon injury.

The good news for Bohs is that Stephen Ward is available once more following four weeks out of action with an ankle injury.

Rovers, meanwhile, have called a press conference for 1pm today (Friday) to face the media on the appointment of Collins as team manager.
