Blues back in action after two days rest

Waterford United play their second game in three days tonight when they trek north to the Brandywell for a premier division clash with Derry City (7.45pm).

The Blues were scheduled to play Shamrock Rovers last Friday night but heavy flooding in the south-east forced a postponement until Sunday and now Alan Reynolds’ players are quickly back in action following their 2-0 win over the Hoops.

Player-manager Reynolds missed that game with a knee injury sustained in the FAI Cup final defeat to Longford Town and he is likely to stay in the dugout tonight. Defender Pat Purcell started against Rovers on Sunday but lasted only 18 minutes before conceding defeat to a foot injury and he remains a doubt for this evening’s game.

With premier division survival assured, Derry City manager Stephen Kenny insists he is already looking to next season and his first full campaign with the club.

Kenny saw his side blow a 2-0 lead against bottom club Dublin City on Saturday night and lose 3-2 but while wideman Gareth McGlynn returns from suspension having missed that game, Derry defender Clive Delaney has another game to serve on his two-match ban while Killian Brennan is an injury doubt.
