Burnley halfway towards upsetting Villa

Burnley had the chance of causing an upset in the Carling Cup tonight when they took a first-half lead against Aston Villa at Turf Moor.

Graham Branch headed Steve Cotterill’s side ahead in the ninth minute and the Coca-Cola Championship side looked the more threatening in the first 45 minutes.

Villa’s only efforts came from in-form midfielder Lee Hendrie but both shots drifted wide and his side trailed at half-time.
