Bellamy awaits fate after Souness showdown
Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy was involved in a shouting match with Graeme Souness as the new manager moved to stamp his authority on the club.
The pair clashed at the club’s training headquarters yesterday before flying out to Greece for tomorrow night’s UEFA Cup group stage clash with Panionios.
Souness confronted the fiery Welshman after reviewing his reaction to his decision to substitute him during Sunday’s 1-1 Barclays Premiership draw at Charlton, where he had scored the opening goal.
However, the 25-year-old refused to accept the carpeting and answered back, sparking an angry exchange which eventually resulted in the two men having to be separated.
The showdown came hours after Souness warned Bellamy and his team-mates he would not tolerate dissent within the camp in the wake of the former Norwich and Coventry striker’s tirade at the Valley.
