Caldwell: Scots must win

Scotland defender Gary Caldwell refused to become embroiled in the debate over whether Berti Vogts should quit – but admitted the players had no option but to produce a win in Moldova.

The Scotland boss has endured a rocky ride during his time in charge of the national team but has always emerged defiant in the past and managed to survive the wrath of his critics.

But Vogts has found himself under increasing pressure over the weekend following Saturday’s defeat to Norway – which leaves Scotland with just a single point from their first two World Cup qualifiers at home.

With Scotland’s chances of qualifying for Germany already hanging perilously by a thread and the Tartan Army becoming more and more disillusioned by the game, a question mark must hang over Vogts’ future if he does not secure a win in Wednesday’s game against Moldova.

But Caldwell defended the Scotland boss, claiming he is doing his best for the national team.

He said: “I don’t want to talk about the manager being under pressure.”
