Gerrard to undergo operation today

Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard will undergo an operation on his fractured metatarsal today.

The surgery will see Gerrard have a screw inserted into the broken bone.

He was informed that the operation was necessary yesterday.

Gerrard suffered his injury 15 days ago, in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, when he was forced off just before half-time.

He hopes to return to action next month, with the prognosis from club doctors and specialists indicating that remains a strong possibility.
