Shelbourne were looking to book their ticket to the UEFA Cup group stages by getting past French hot-shots Lille in their Metropole arena.

More than 200 Shels fans made the trip to the north of France, just a few days after thrashing Shamrock Rovers 4-1 in the eircom League.
