Holland in Republic squad

Matt Holland has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against France and the Faroe Islands despite not playing for his club, Charlton, in over a month.

Liam Miller has also received the call from Republic manager Brian Kerr after recovering from injury to feature in Manchester United’s last two games. He, like Holland, was sidelined for the games against Cyprus and Switzerland recently.

Miller’s domestic team-mate John O’Shea is also included, as expected, after missing the Switzerland game.

Manchester City defender Richard Dunne returns to the squad, while Graham Barrett retains his place having been a late addition due to injuries in the double-header earlier this month.

The squad will meet on Tuesday, October 5 ahead of the France match in Paris on October 9 and the Lansdowne Road clash with the Faroe Islands on October 13.
