FAI Cup draw takes place tonight
Newly-crowned League Cup winners Longford Town will find out their next opponents in the FAI Carlsberg Cup tonight when the quarter-final draw is made live on RTE One.
Members of Brian Kerr’s Republic of Ireland squad are set to do the honours live on the Six-One news at their Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links base as they prepare to open their World Cup qualifying campaign against Cyprus on Saturday.
And Longford, now holders of both knockout trophies following their 2-1 win over Bohemians at Flancare Park last night, will fear no-one.
Alan Matthews’ side disposed of Shamrock Rovers in extra time of their third-round replay last week, leaving just themselves, league leaders Drogheda United, Waterford United and Derry City as the Premier Division survivors in the last eight.
First division trio Athlone Town, Kildare County and UCD also go into the hat while Intermediate Cup winners Rockmount of Cork are just two games away from repeating St Francis’ achievement in 1990 of a non-league side reaching the final.
