Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer has apologised for his refusal to play where manager Bobby Robson wanted him to in last Saturday’s Barclays Premiership clash with Middlesbrough.

The 25-year-old, who was booed by sections of the crowd at St James’ Park when he appeared as a half-time substitute in England’s 3-0 victory over Ukraine last night, issued a statement after meeting club officials today.
