In a club statement issued today, Derry City have confirmed former Bohemians boss Stephen Kenny has agreed a two-and-half-year contract as full-time manager beginning with immediate effect.

Kenny, who recently completed his UEFA “A” Licence coaching badge, succeeds Gavin Dykes as Derry City boss but takes over Peter Hutton.

Dykes resigned in May with the club in relegation trouble and Hutton was installed as caretaker player-manager, leading the club out of danger.

The statement paid tribute to Hutton, adding: “Derry City Football Club would also like to put on record its thanks to Peter Hutton who took temporary control of team affairs after the departure of Gavin Dykes.

“Although he has always insisted that he wanted to return to the playing field, his dedication and commitment to the club culminated in the recent run of excellent results.”
