Bhoys receive double boost

Martin O’Neill today received good news on two fronts with Celtic trialist Charles-Edouard Coridon being cleared to face Tottenham and Stilian Petrov being cleared of serious injury.

Lens midfielder Coridon has impressed at Parkhead this week but the Celtic manager wanted to see him in action.

The 31-year-old Martinique international, who turned down a move to Everton, has been given clearance to face Spurs.

Young winger Ross Wallace is certainly looking forward to seeing him against Tottenham after an impressive trial.

The 19-year-old Scot said: “He has been in training and he has been really impressive. He is a really strong player and coming from the French League you have to be a good player. He can use both feet and it will be interesting to see him playing.”

Celtic’s medical team expect injured midfielder Petrov to be back in action soon.

The Bulgarian international skipper was taken off on a stretcher during yesterday’s 2-0 victory over Motherwell at Parkhead after falling awkwardly on his ankle and he feared he had suffered serious damage.

But the 25-year-old has been told the injury is not as bad as first feared and he could even recover to face Kilmarnock in the Bank of Scotland Premier League next weekend.

A Celtic spokesperson said: “His ankle has responded well to treatment and hopefully he should be better soon.

“The manager is hopeful and I think it will be days rather than weeks before he kicks a ball again.”

Wallace was also relieved with the good news regarding his talented team-mate.

The Dundee-born winger said: “I think it might be days rather than weeks so we are happy with that.

“He has just gone over on his ankle and twisted it so it doesn’t look too serious which is good news.”

Wallace acknowledges that not only Coridon will be looking to impress against the London giants at Parkhead tomorrow.

Celtic relish games against Barclays Premiership opposition and even though Spurs have their big kick-off this weekend, the youngster believes the game will be anything but friendly.

“Because they are from the Premiership maybe we are looking to beat them,” concluded Wallace.

“It will be a tough game and not a friendly. We will be going out to win it and I’m sure they will as well.”
