Wolves chase Bjorklund

Wolves manager Dave Jones hopes to sign former Sunderland defender Joachim Bjorklund before the start of the Championship season.

Released by the Black Cats at the end of the 2003-04 campaign, the ex-Sweden international arrived at Molineux for a medical today with a view to signing a one-year deal with the club.

Jones’ decision to release Isaac Okoronkwo was followed by Paul Butler’s summertime switch to Leeds, leaving Wolves short of numbers at the heart of their defence.

Although Joleon Lescott has now recovered from the knee injuries which sidelined him for the whole of last season’s Premiership campaign, Jones was anxious to bring in an additional experienced defender.

The Wolves boss was thwarted in efforts to attract Martin Keown and trialist Youl Mawene, who signed deals with Leicester and Preston respectively, while another target, Michael Duberry, decided to stay at Leeds.

But Jones is now aiming to have Bjorklund on board prior to Sunday’s clash with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.
