Rick Parry has warned Liverpool fans not to expect vast sums of money to be lavished in the transfer market as the Merseysiders battle to close the gap on the Premiership’s big three.

The Anfield chief executive, who insists that new boss Rafael Benitez has already introduced a whole new feel-good atmosphere since taking over from Gerard Houllier, believes that the days are gone when Liverpool can compete financially with the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid.
