Pardew - We'd be silly to miss out on Rebrov

West Ham manager Alan Pardew believes it would have been “silly” to pass up the chance of giving Tottenham misfit Sergei Rebrov a trial.

West Ham manager Alan Pardew believes it would have been “silly” to pass up the chance of giving Tottenham misfit Sergei Rebrov a trial.

The Ukrainian striker cost Tottenham £11m (€16.4m) when he signed from Dynamo Kiev four years ago and is still a Spurs player despite spending all of last season on loan to Fenerbahce in Turkey.

He has become surplus to requirements there as well but could link up again with former White Hart Lane team-mates Teddy Sheringham and Matthew Etherington at Upton Park.

Rebrov has been training at West Ham for the last few days and Pardew said: “He wants to come. He has a feel for the club and it would be wrong not to look at someone of his ability.

“Going on his record in the past it would be silly not to do that.”

Rebrov, 30 last month, scored only eight league goals in 59 appearances for Spurs and never found favour despite having previously scored 28 goals in 60 games in European football for Dynamo and having struck up a famous partnership with Andrei Shevchenko, now at AC Milan.

The chances of Rebrov joining West Ham have been enhanced by David Connolly deciding to move to Leicester in a £500,000 (€749,000) deal, although the Ukrainian’s wages could present a major problem.
