Pompey pull out of Fuller deal

Ricardo Fuller’s proposed £2m (€3m) move to Portsmouth has fallen through after the Preston striker failed a medical.

Ricardo Fuller’s proposed £2m (€3m) move to Portsmouth has fallen through after the Preston striker failed a medical.

Pompey decided to pull out of the deal to sign the Jamaican forward after taking advice from two medical sources, according to Portsmouth’s official website.

The Barclays Premiership club insisted on carrying out a thorough medical examination of Fuller, who has struggled with a knee injury during his two years at Deepdale.

Fuller hit 19 goals for the Lilywhites in the league and cup last season, and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp was keen to snap up the 24-year-old as he tries to build on his side’s Premiership survival last term.

“Fuller will return to Preston to join the rest of the squad for pre-season training,” said a statement on Preston’s official website.

“Fuller saw a Portsmouth specialist as part of his medical to complete a move to Fratton Park and on their advice, after assessing the Jamaican’s right knee, the south-coast club decided not to pursue the matter.”
