Kearney is player of month
Cork City's European hero Liam Kearney has been named eircom/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland player of the month for June.
The award comes as reward for the midfielder’s goal-scoring heroics in the famous 1-0 InterToto Cup victory in Sweden over former European Cup finalists Malmo.
Kearney grabbed the only goal of the game to send the Leesiders through to meet Nijmegen and he was also on the score-sheet with a last-gasp winner in the 2-1 eircom League victory over Derry City at Turners Cross.
Kearney, a former trainee at Nottingham Forest and Irish international in all age groups from Under 16 to U21, landed the prestigious award ahead of strong claims from Cork City team-mate Dan Murphy and Shelbourne’s Wes Hoolahan.
