Cork opponents notch up nine

Cork City’s next Intertoto Cup opponents, Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, beat Quick 1888, Holland’s oldest football club, 9-0 in a pre-season friendly last night.

The names for City fans to watch out for are centre-forward Frank Demouge and midfielder Jarda Simr, who scored five and three respectively.

Cork boss Pat Dolan was at the game, and admits that City have a tough task ahead of them if they are to progress in Europe.

“I was very impressed with Nijmegen and what I saw at the stadium last night. Now we know what we are up against at the weekend,” Dolan told the Evening Echo.
