Rudi Voller has resigned as Germany coach after his side’s meek exit from Euro 2004, according to reports in the German media.

The 44-year-old, who lifted the World Cup for his country as a player in 1990, unexpectedly guided Germany to the 2002 World Cup final, where they were beaten by Brazil.

However, Voller’s side have since suffered a massive dip in form.

They lost 2-0 to Hungary and 5-1 to Romania in Euro 2004 warm-up games, before limping out of Euro 2004 in the group stages.

Germany needed to beat the Czech Republic in their final group match to progress to the quarter-finals, but they slumped to a 2-1 defeat against their under-strength opponents.

The result left Germany with only two points from their three group games against the Czechs, Holland and Latvia.
